About Maureen

Maureen was first elected to Hamilton City Council in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022 with 75% of the vote.

She’s committed to improving life for everyone in the community by addressing issues like affordable housing, better transit, child care, streets built for people, better public spaces, protecting our ecosystems, and supporting local businesses.

Maureen's vision for the Ward and Hamilton emphasizes a future for our city that benefits its residents—that offers each resident opportunity and hope. She believes Hamilton Council must lead by example, listen to learn and govern purposefully.

From safe streets to investment in public spaces, repairing infrastructure to strengthening local economies, and with a lifelong passion for the community, representing Ward 1 in City Council gives Maureen an opportunity to take a forward-thinking approach to civic governance.

Maureen previously worked in senior staff positions in Hamilton’s local and regional governments. She also served as Mayor Bob Wade’s Chief of Staff for the two years immediately following amalgamation and has Master’s degrees in Urban Planning and Political Science.

In Maureen's first term on Council, she sat on many committees and subcommittees in the city, including the Audit, Finance and Administration Committee, General Issues Committee, Hamilton Board of Health, and the Affordable Housing Site Selection Sub-Committee, to name a few. She also serves on the Advisory Committee for Immigrants & Refugees, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Advisory Committee, the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion and the Ward’s BIAs.

Maureen enjoys walking or biking to work, gardening and supporting local independent businesses. She and her husband raised three children together, all of whom attended Ward 1 schools, and the family live in Ward 1.
